Memory cards
collage and play
Memory is the games we always take on family vacations. Often I thought about designing a memory game on my own and how fun it would be.
I made this drawing somewhere in the beginning of the summer - a fairy neighborhood. I will give it a try as a theme for a memory game. When you choose a theme, you are creating a whole universe of characters and environments on 12 panels. My fairies like books with tea and sweets, they like to decorate Christmas trees and Christmas mushrooms, make presents and play music.
The images will stick better together if there is a cohesive look in a limited colour palette. Prepare squares (6cm x 6cm) and colour them with the colours you can imagine as a background. Choose neutral tones. Red and yellow are greate accent colours, but too bright for a background. I am using hot pressed paper 190g (90lbs).
You need about 12 pairs, but don’t count at the beginning, create as many as possible, think around the corner, but stick to your theme. It would be nice to give the fairies names and own stories. The sweet fairy could hold a candy cane. The music fairy could be playing a trumpet.
Choose your design for the back of the cards. I like the Christmas tree a lot, but the one card with white background is very calm and might be a better fit for the back design. Take photos scan, print, glue. Do whatever it takes to bring this set together.
You can make a box for the set. The box might have the shape of a house, where some fairies live. Here you can tell more of the story you created on the 12 panels. For the shape I used a template from the FLOW magazine Nr 94, published this winter. You can also unfold a paper tea box and make your own template.

Have a lovely day ! Juliana

This is such a clever idea. I have never heard of Flow magazine but now I want to get my hands on it. Do you know if it's available in the U.S.?
completely love this!
