Seaside vs. Lake
location change
Every illustration has a story, mood and characters. Sometimes you don’t see the characters, because they are the observers.
You have colour palette, composition and concept. If you are totally clueless why your illustration gives you sleepless nights, it might be the concept and the point of view.
This collage was inspired by sunny, hot, summer days spend under the umbrella at the Black Sea. Watermelons were an inseparable part of every summer vacation with my family. My grandparents used to have a watermelon farm. We arrived at the seaside with nothing less than a car full of watermelons. My father used to burry one watermelon in the sand by the waves and cut it well refreshed in slices, offering every longingly looking child to join.
This is a beautiful story, but it has nothing to do with this collage.
In my more adult life I don’t like sand. I prefer sunny days through the windows of a cool house. I would go for a quick swim and hide for the rest of the sunny day with a middle grade adventures novel in the shadows of something green and fresh.
I changed the location with an afternoon meadow on a lake. I could hang out here with a friend for a while. Would you like to join me for a workshop on a virtual meadow? The theme is FRUITS.

Please consider a paid subscription and be a part of Let’s Collage Live Workshops. Come spontaneously or be a solid part of the community. All workshops in May are open for everyone.
I imagine the Live Workshops to be a space, where we could meet at least twice a month for an hourly session, feel safe, inspired and bloom. Next to craft, or how to do collage, the themes I want to explore with you are patterns, landscape, portraits, composition, colours, perspective, recipes and maps. In my wildest dreams I imagine the group transforming into a strong community, which continues to meet regularly on its own terms after a while.
Have a wonderful day,
Love* Juliana
